Bee Blessed (a poem)

Updated: Feb 2

Bless all the bumblebees

and the ivy-covered trees

and the old couple getting the mail

and their grandkids who

forgot to call on their 52nd anniversary

and the kids next door who visit

more often than their children

and the young dog who

grows to outlive the patriarchs

who prayed every night,

“Be blessed goin’ out and comin’ in.

Remember that you are hemmed

behind and before,

and there’s always an open door

every Christmas, birthday, plain-jane Tuesday.

you’ll always be welcome,

you’ll always be invited,

you’ll always be blessed,

you’ll always be loved.”
